What’s in a name?

Our name came from a time I was reading the Bible passage from James 9. It talks about a man that was blind from birth. The disciples asked Jesus who sinned to cause the mans blindness, but Jesus said “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him”.

There have been so many times I have seen God displayed through our friends. I remember Ronnie thought he could not serve in the church until we asked him what he felt God wanted him to do. He said he wanted to serve in the church. When asked what he thought God wanted him to do, he said “Maybe be an usher”. A phone call later, Ronnie was an usher. Now Ronnie works as an usher in our church and helps with a boys group, called Royal Rangers.

Coop also is an encourager. Each week he sends encouraging messages to a group of us. He also calls with an encouraging word once in a while. It always reminds me how blessed I am when I hear Coops words of encouragement.

So many of our Friends depend on others to live their daily lives. Some need help getting out of bed, taking a shower, eating, turning on and off lights and everything most of us take for granted. No wonder it is so easy for them to accept the help of God in their lives. Many trust without asking, accept without proof, and seeing by faith. We can learn a lot from our Friends!

I could talk a long time about our Friends and how they display God through hardships and pain. How they continue to smile through loss and sometimes, neglect. How they always have a kind word to say and how they love to give out hugs. We love our Friends and want them to succeed where God leads them. We want them to feel they can do anything, as Christ enables them. We will help them be independent and give respite to the ones that care for them. We also hope to help our committees accept them, and help them to thrive in businesses and every day life.
